Koko ‘shocked’ to understand e-mail deal with he believed was Ngubane’s belonged to Essa

CAPE Town – Stunned, flabbergasted, indignant.

That was previous Eskom team CEO Matshela Koko’s reaction at the state seize inquiry on Tuesday when he was instructed that an email tackle he imagined belonged to board chairperson Ben Ngubane was in fact that of Gupta business enterprise affiliate, Salim Essa.

He informed the inquiry that he experienced been presented the email tackle by Eskom’s previous head of lawful and compliance, Suzanne Daniels, who stated that it was Ngubane’s personalized email account.

Koko sent a string of emails to the account for the duration of 2015, attaching info about Eskom.

Proof leader Pule Seleka told Koko that it had been founded through Daniels’ disciplinary listening to that the infoportal1@zoho.com e mail tackle belonged to Essa.

This was Koko’s response: “Chairman, I observe that – I’m shocked, I’m flabbergasted and it angers me, if that is certainly the case.”

Koko mentioned that Daniels gave him the email tackle on his return to Eskom just after his suspension was lifted, when she had been built organization secretary and was operating in Ngubane’s business.

“Ms Daniels gave me the e-mail address and mentioned, ‘You will need to hold the chairman knowledgeable.’”

Koko mentioned that none of the e-mail he sent greeted Ngubane by title as he in no way did that. He claimed that it was not unusual for Eskom board users to use personal e-mail addresses.

Koko took the stand for the 3rd time yesterday but only really late in the afternoon. He will be referred to as again, on a day yet to be set, to remedy even further issues about the e-mail and transactions concerning Eskom and Tegeta.

He advised the inquiry it did not issue if the e mail account belonged to Essa or not: “What issues to me is that if that e-mail tackle belongs to an external celebration then it is a significant stability breach for me. That worries me.”

He claimed not be conscious that he was communicating with a 3rd bash, outside Eskom.

Previous Eskom CFO Anoj Singh is due to give testimony on Wednesday.
